Your guide. Your ally.
Your voice in the courtroom.

John Harb

I’m an experienced criminal defence lawyer who cares about one thing above all: being your guide, your ally, your voice in the courtroom. Whether justice is achieved with a fight in court or a negotiation out of it — I don’t mind.
Three things separate me from the usual suited suspects roaming the corridors of your Local, District, or Supreme Court.

I’m unafraid to make a joke in court
In fact, I love it. From the moment I first stepped foot inside a courtroom, I saw how they could be frightening and tense places. I quickly discovered that judges are humans too, and a bit of courage (and a slightly comedic approach to a matter, where appropriate) was all it took for the judge’s shoulders to relax, and for the same to happen for my client. After that, a judge is always likelier to treat you with greater empathy.
I have a talent for explaining things
The law is complex, and you hear a lot of confusing, fancy, mumbo-jumbo legal-talk in court. And although you deserve to know what’s going on, you don’t have the time to spend night after night reading through page after page of impossible-to-understand legislation. That’s why I’ve developed a rare reputation for explaining complex concepts in simple terms. I consider it a gross personal failure if you are ever left in the dark about any of the laws affecting your life. Instead, I make sure you leave my office wondering why it was never explained so simply to you before.
I read and write fiction
Most lawyers don’t do this — they say they don’t have time for it, or maybe they don’t have an interest. I think that’s too bad, because I know the great classic works of fiction — Austen, Dickens, Christie, Poe — bestow much upon the modern lawyer to separate him from the crowd. It’s not only my job to say something clearly — but also beautifully, persuasively, passionately. And Shakespeare keeps the tongue sharp.
Making court less scary.
These qualities come from my commitment toward teaching, toward making court experiences less scary and more understandable for the non-lawyer, as they should be. To achieve this, I also post free mini-lessons on TikTok and Instagram @johnharblawyer.
I also know Arabic. Isn’t that cool?
