Common questions

Frequently asked questions

I’ve received a Court Attendance Notice. What should I do?

Check the court date and location on the notice, and don’t ignore it — failing to appear can lead to a warrant for your arrest. Get legal advice before your first court date so you understand the charge, the evidence and your options, including whether to plead guilty or not guilty.

Will I get a criminal record?

Not necessarily. Depending on the offence and your circumstances, the court may be able to deal with the matter without recording a conviction. Whether that’s a realistic outcome in your case is one of the first things we’ll talk about.

Can I keep my licence after a traffic offence?

In some cases, yes. Outcomes depend on the offence, your driving history and your personal circumstances. Some police and Transport for NSW suspensions can also be appealed to the Local Court. Time limits apply, so get advice quickly.

How much will it cost?

Your first consultation is free. After that, it depends on the type of matter and how it proceeds. You’ll receive a clear, written estimate of costs before any work begins, as required under NSW law.

Do I have to go to court?

Usually, yes, though in some matters your lawyer can appear on your behalf for certain mentions. We’ll tell you exactly when you need to attend and what to expect on the day.
